The Libyan Ambulance and Emergency Service has declared a state of emergency in areas of the Rabiana municipality (150 kilometres from the city of Kufra, south-east Libya) due to heavy rains and torrential downpours in the city.
The ambulance service announced the evacuation of 26 people trapped in the Martyr Attia Al-Kasah hospital due to the heavy rains that fell on the city of Kufra, in addition to the evacuation of 19 Sudanese whose house collapsed, according to the media office of the Kufra city council.
Abdullah Suleiman Hamed, director of the media office of the Kufra local council, said no human casualties had been recorded as a result of the torrential rains.
A record amount of rain fell on Kufra, which the city has not seen since 1952, the National Meteorological Centre reported yesterday.
