Talks on a ceasefire in Sudan, mediated by the United States, which is determined to move forward even without the participation of the Sudanese army, will begin in Switzerland on Wednesday.
Sudan has been embroiled in a war between the army, led by Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), led by his former deputy Mohamed Hamdan Daglo, which has brought the country to the brink of famine.
At the end of July, Washington invited the warring parties to a new round of negotiations, due to begin on Wednesday, in a bid to end the devastating war that has lasted almost 16 months.
The RSF has announced its unconditional agreement to participate,’ said Tom Perriello, the US special envoy to Sudan.
