The two losing candidates in last Saturday’s Algerian presidential election, Islamist Abdelali Hassani and leftist Youssef Ochich, announced Tuesday that they had filed appeals with the Constitutional Court to contest the election results.
Abdelali Hassani filed an appeal with the Constitutional Court after saying in a press conference that the electoral commission had denied him half of the 170,000 votes he received.
Youssef Oshish, for his part, decided to appeal to the “Constitutional Court” on the day Oshish said he had won more than 200,000 votes, while the official results gave him 122,000.
