Kazakhstan hosts new round of Astana talks on Syria

Kazakhstan’s capital Astana will host the ‘Astana 22’ meetings on Syria on Monday and Tuesday under the auspices of Turkey, Iran and Russia.

The Kazakh Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Friday that bilateral and trilateral consultative meetings will be held between delegations, followed by a plenary session and a press conference at the end of the second day.

The 22nd edition of the meetings will focus on finding a solution to the Syrian crisis, confidence-building measures between the parties, the reconstruction of Syria and the conditions for the return of Syrians to their homes.

It is worth noting that the last Astana meetings were held on 24 and 25 January 2024.

The Astana talks began in 2017 under the auspices of the guarantor countries Turkey, Russia and Iran to find a solution to the political crisis in Syria.
