US President Joe Biden said on Tuesday that it will take tens of billions of dollars to rebuild Los Angeles after seven days of wildfires.

It comes as California’s largest city braces for the return of high winds that threaten to fuel the wildfires that have killed at least 24 people.

Firefighters have contained the spread of the Palisades Fire, which is approaching the upscale Brentwood neighbourhood and the densely populated San Fernando Valley.

About 92,000 people remain under mandatory evacuation orders because of the wildfires and another 89,000 are under evacuation warnings, Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna told reporters on Monday.
