Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev signed a presidential order on Friday to dissolve the National Assembly of the Republic of Azerbaijan (Parliament) and hold early parliamentary elections.
According to the presidential order, the sixth session of the National Assembly of the Republic of Azerbaijan will be dissolved and early parliamentary elections will be held on 1 September 2024.
According to the Constitution, early elections must be held within 60 days of the dissolution of the legislature by presidential decree.
The last parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan were held on 9 February 2020, having been brought forward following the dissolution of the parliament in December 2019.
