Iran enters election silence ahead of second round of presidential election

Iran entered a period of electoral silence on Thursday morning, ahead of tomorrow’s (Friday) second round of the Iranian presidential election between reformist Masoud Bazeshkian and conservative Saeed Jalili.
Campaigning by the Iranian candidates began last Sunday after the results of the first round were announced, in which the reformist candidate came first with about 43 per cent of the votes of 24 million and 500,000 voters, and the conservative candidate came second with 38 per cent.

Voter turnout in the first round of Iran’s presidential election was 40 per cent.
