Geneva: Meeting of Security Council members to mark the 75th anniversary of the Geneva Conventions

Switzerland has invited UN Security Council member states to a meeting in Geneva on 25 and 26 August to mark the 75th anniversary of the Geneva Conventions.

The aim of the meeting is to highlight the importance of international humanitarian law and the protection of civilians in armed conflicts in light of the Geneva Conventions, which were adopted 75 years ago, the Swiss Foreign Ministry said in a statement distributed in Geneva.

The event will be marked by a symbolic ceremony in Geneva’s Place des Nations, where Swiss Federal Councillor Ignazio Casillas will deliver a speech in the presence of representatives of the participating countrie.
