Venezuela’s opposition said in an open letter on Wednesday that it would consider any Supreme Court ruling validating President Nicolas Maduro’s re-election ‘null and void’.
The National Electoral Council (CNE) certified Maduro’s victory in early August with 52% of the vote, but did not publish the exact number of votes he received or the records of polling stations, suggesting they had been hacked.
The opposition rejected the results, claiming fraud and announcing the victory of their candidate, Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutia, while Maduro accused the opposition of organising a “coup”.
Maduro has asked the Supreme Court to certify his victory.
