On Monday morning, September 2, 2024, Tunisian security forces arrested Tunisian presidential candidate and leader of the Azmoun party, Ayachi Zemal, on suspicion of forging recommendations in his candidacy file.
Zemal was arrested and transferred to the National Guard area in Tabarba, Manouba governorate, on charges of forging recommendations, according to his campaign member Mehdi Abdel Jawad.
On Thursday, August 29, Zemal appeared in court in the same case and was released.
The Electoral Commission had accepted the candidacy of Ayachi Zemal, a leader of the Azmoun party, for the presidential elections scheduled for October 6.
