European Commission President arrives in Kiev to discuss energy assistance to Ukraine as winter approaches

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said she arrived in Kiev on Friday to discuss ‘European support’ for Ukraine as winter approaches.

She wrote on the X platform: My eighth visit to Kiev comes as winter approaches, when the country needs heating and Russia continues its attacks on energy infrastructure.

She added that the EU aims to restore 2.5 gigawatts of power generation capacity and will work to increase exports to provide Ukraine with around 2 gigawatts of electricity.

Von der Leyen will meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and other officials.
