The death toll from Hurricane Helen reached 227 on Saturday, as efforts to recover bodies continued more than a week after the powerful storm struck the southeastern United States, resulting in fatalities across six states.
Hurricane Helen made landfall on September 26 as a Category 4 hurricane, causing widespread destruction as it moved north from Florida, destroying homes and roads, and cutting electricity and mobile service for millions of people.
Hurricane Helen is considered the deadliest storm to hit the mainland United States since Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
