Tunisia: School suspensions continue in 3 eastern governorates due to heavy rains

Local authorities in Tunisia announced on Wednesday the suspension of classes in all educational institutions for the second day in a row.in 3 eastern governorates due to heavy rains.
The governorate of Sousse said it had decided to suspend classes in all schools due to the heavy rainfall and the expectation that it would continue.
The same decision was taken by the coastal governorates of Mahdia and Montastre.

According to the National Institute of Meteorology, the governorates of eastern Tunisia have received huge amounts of rain over the past 24 hours, with more than 100 millimetres falling in several areas.

As a result of the bad weather, local authorities announced yesterday (Tuesday) the suspension of classes in five governorates: Sousse, Monastir, Mahdia, Sfax (east) and Gabes (south-east).
Tunisia has been suffering from a severe drought for the past three years, with dam levels dropping to 21 per cent in mid-October.
