United Nations: Lebanon’s Economic Losses Could Reach 9% of GDP

Lebanon is facing increasing economic challenges due to the ongoing war between Israel and Hezbollah. Recent estimates from the United Nations indicate that this conflict could significantly impact the Lebanese economy, highlighting the risks that threaten its stability.
According to a report from the United Nations Development Programme, the war is expected to consume nine percent of Lebanon’s GDP, reflecting the impact of combat operations and economic risks that exceed those witnessed during the 2006 conflict.
Additionally, government financing needs are projected to increase by 30 percent, further complicating the country’s financial situation. Observers anticipate that the conflict may extend until the end of 2024, meaning that economic costs will continue to rise over time.
