Closure of Iranian Consulates in Germany After Execution of German-Iranian Opposition

German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock announced today, Thursday, Germany’s decision to close its three consulates in Frankfurt, Munich, and Hamburg in response to the execution of Iranian opposition figure Jamshid Sharmahd, who held German citizenship.
Germany also summoned its ambassador to Iran on Wednesday to express its strong protest against the execution.
In related remarks to foreign media, Baerbock clarified that this decision came after what she described as Sharmahd’s assassination by a dictatorial and oppressive regime.
It is worth noting that Sharmahd had been living in the United States and was abducted by Iranian security forces in Dubai in 2020.
