Czech Republic Begins Importing Gas from Algeria to Compensate for Russian Supply Shortage

The Czech energy group “ČEZ” reported on Thursday that the Czech Republic has begun importing gas from Algeria to compensate for the shortfall in Russian supplies due to the ongoing war in Ukraine.
Spokesman Roman Gazdik stated that the imported supplies via pipelines in Tunisia and Italy will cover about 2% of gas consumption in the Czech Republic, sufficient to meet the needs of 100,000 households.
In this context, Gazdik added that the supplies, negotiated with the state-owned Algerian company Sonatrach, began in October.
Prague also imports gas from Germany and Norway, as well as through a liquefied natural gas terminal in the Netherlands. The Czech Republic, a member of the European Union and NATO, is a key ally of Ukraine, providing it with essential humanitarian and military aid.
