Libya reaches highest daily oil output in 12 years

The head of Libya’s national unity government, Abdelhamid al-Dabiba, announced on Thursday that his country had reached its highest daily oil production in 12 years.

This came in a blog post by al-Dabiba via his account on the ‘X’ website, in which he said: ‘Today, our country’s oil production reached 1.363 million barrels per day for the first time since 2013.

‘This important figure is part of our plan to develop the oil sector and reach production rates of two million barrels by the end of 2025,’ he said.

These steps will help strengthen the Libyan dinar, improve citizens’ livelihoods and stabilise our national economy,’ he said.

Since the overthrow of Muammar Gaddafi’s regime in 2011, the oil sector in Libya, which has Africa’s largest oil reserves of 50 billion barrels according to OPEC, has gone through difficult times due to several shutdowns, sometimes politically motivated and sometimes regionally.
