Thirty-five people have been killed and 43 others injured in a car accident at a sports centre in Zhuhai, south China’s Guangdong province.

The city’s public security bureau said on Tuesday that the accident occurred as people were exercising at the centre and that police quickly managed to control the suspect as he fled the scene, Xinhua reported.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect’s actions stemmed from his dissatisfaction with the division of his property after his divorce, and he is being investigated for endangering public safety by dangerous means and has been placed under criminal detention, police said.
