Brazil : G20 summit kicks off in Rio with 42 countries.

The G20 summit begins its work today, Monday, and will continue until tomorrow, Tuesday, in the Brazilian capital, Rio de Janeiro, to discuss current and important issues, particularly tensions in the Middle East and energy, with the remarkable presence of some 42 countries and the participation of member states, in addition to the African Union and the European Union.

In a statement, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva said that 42 countries will participate in the G20 summit in Brazil and will discuss the fight against hunger and poverty, energy transition, global governance and the need to reform the United Nations to ensure respect for its decisions.

Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in Rio de Janeiro for the G20 summit, beginning his visit with wide-ranging talks with Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan arrived in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on Sunday to attend the G20 summit.

The G20 member states are: Turkey, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, the United Kingdom and the United States.

According to 2018 data from the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund, the G20 countries together with the European Union have a combined GDP of $84.65 trillion, which represents 85 per cent of the total GDP of the global economy.
