Polish health authorities have detected the polio virus in sewage water in the capital, Warsaw, during routine testing, prompting them to urge parents to vaccinate their children.

The new measures include intensified sewage testing and replenishing vaccine stocks.

The virus is primarily transmitted through contact with the waste of infected individuals and mainly affects children under the age of five, potentially leading to paralysis in severe cases.
