Namibians vote in presidential elections today

Namibians go to the polls today (Wednesday) in general elections to choose the country’s president and the composition of parliament.

Nitumbo Nandi Ndaitwah (72), Namibia’s current vice-president and the ruling South West African People’s Organisation (SWAPO) presidential candidate, is leading in the special early voting process for expatriates, the results of which were announced earlier this month.

If Ntombo Nandi Ndaitwah wins, she will become the country’s first female president.

Some 1.4 million people, almost half of Namibia’s population, have registered to vote.
