Voters take to the polls in Irish general election

Polling stations opened today in Ireland’s general election to choose the next government.

Analysts expect the election to result in the formation of a coalition government between the centre-right Fine Gael and Fianna Fail parties.

Vote counting will begin tomorrow morning, Saturday, and it could take several days for the final results to be announced and for a government to be formed days or weeks later.
