Negotiations on the plastic pollution treaty stall after Russian and Saudi rejection

A round of negotiations aimed at reaching an agreement to reduce plastic pollution failed after a week of talks hosted by South Korea, with nearly 200 countries participating.
The failure was due to the refusal of oil-producing nations, primarily Russia and Saudi Arabia, to set a global cap on plastic production.
As a result, the fifth round of negotiations held in Busan, South Korea, will be extended to an undetermined date, as participating countries disagreed on how to address the global plastic waste crisis, according to the Financial Times report on Sunday.
