South Korean President Announces Lifting of Martial Law Hours After Imposition

South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol announced on Tuesday that he would move to lift the martial law he had imposed just hours earlier, following a parliamentary vote against the measure.

He also decided to withdraw the martial law command forces and convene a cabinet meeting as soon as possible.

Yoon had accused the opposition of being “anti-state forces” when announcing the imposition of martial law, a move that was met with rejection from his opponents, who deemed it unconstitutional and invalid.
