A trilateral meeting was held today in Baghdad, bringing together the foreign ministers of Iraq, Syria, and Iran. Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein hosted his Syrian counterpart, Faisal Mekdad, and Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian to discuss the latest developments in Syria, particularly the advances made by opposition forces, including their control of Aleppo and Hama and their approach toward Homs.
The ministers emphasized the importance of joint coordination to tackle regional security challenges and stressed the need to preserve Syria’s territorial integrity. Discussions also focused on ways to support the Syrian government in combating terrorism, alongside reaffirming the significance of a political solution to the Syrian crisis.
Iraq’s foreign minister highlighted the interconnected security of Syria and the region, announcing that Iraq would call for an emergency Arab League meeting at the ministerial level to address the escalating situation in Syria.
This meeting comes amidst rising tensions in Syria, underlining the urgency for enhanced diplomatic efforts to achieve peaceful resolutions to the ongoing crisis.
