U.S. President-elect Donald Trump said early Sunday that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad “fled his country” after losing the support of his ally Russia.
Trump posted on his social media platform “Truth Social” that “Assad is gone,” adding, “His protector Russia, led by Vladimir Putin, no longer cares about protecting him.”
He added, “Syria is in chaos, but it’s not our friend, and the United States should have no relationship with it.”
