Brazil: President Lula da Silva stabilised after brain surgery

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva was taken to São Paulo last night for emergency surgery to stop a brain haemorrhage linked to a fall at his home in October and will remain in hospital for two more days, the Brazilian government said on Tuesday.

According to a hospital bulletin, Lula went to the Brasilia unit of the Sirio Libanese Hospital last night for a radiological examination after experiencing a headache. An MRI scan revealed an intracranial haemorrhage as a result of the accident at his home on 19 October.
The medical team continues to monitor President da Silva’s condition.
