In an interview with the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera, the head of Syria’s transitional government, Mohammad al-Bashir, called on his compatriots who fled the country during the years of conflict to return home after the fall of President Bashar al-Assad.
Al-Bashir assured the newspaper that the rights of all people and sects in Syria would be guaranteed.
After his appointment on Tuesday, al-Bashir said it was time for his countrymen to enjoy ‘stability and calm’ after two days under the regime of President Bashar al-Assad, who fled to Moscow after ruling the country for a quarter of a century.
HTS, which led the offensive that toppled Assad’s rule, appointed al-Bashir, who headed the “salvation government” in the northwestern rebel stronghold of Idlib, to head a caretaker government until 1 March 2025. .
