The African Union is set to organize an open debate, titled “Mjadala Afrika”, bringing together the three candidates for the position of Chairperson of the African Union Commission. The debate will take place on December 13, 2024, at the Union’s headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The live-broadcast event aims to provide candidates with an exceptional opportunity to present their programs and visions for addressing the continent’s key challenges, including security, economic development, and regional integration.
This initiative is part of the Union’s efforts to promote transparency and democratic dialogue ahead of the upcoming February 2025 elections to select a successor to the current Chairperson, Moussa Faki Mahamat.
The African Union described the debate as a vital platform for showcasing the leadership vision for the continent amid increasing regional and global challenges.
