Damascus – Syrians across the country marked the first Friday following the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime with massive celebrations. Thousands gathered in public squares and mosques, expressing joy and relief after the end of nearly 24 years of authoritarian rule.
In Damascus, Al-Omaween Square was packed with celebrators waving national flags and chanting slogans of unity and hope for a better future. At the Umayyad Mosque, worshippers performed Friday prayers and expressed gratitude for this historic transformation.
Similar scenes unfolded in Aleppo, Homs, Hama, and Latakia, where people organized marches, sang national songs, and distributed sweets in a spirit of jubilation. Streets were adorned with banners carrying messages of hope and calls for rebuilding the nation.
This event comes a week after opposition forces took control of Damascus, prompting Assad to flee to an undisclosed location, effectively ending his 24-year rule.
These celebrations represent the beginning of a new era for Syria, where its people aspire to freedom, democracy, and lasting peace.
