China and the United States have signed a protocol to amend and extend the science and technology cooperation agreement between the two countries.
According to Xinhua, the two countries agreed to extend the agreement for another five years from 27 August 2024, China’s Ministry of Science and Technology announced.
On 31 January 1979, then Chinese leader Deng Xiaoping and 39th US President Jimmy Carter signed the agreement during Deng’s visit to the US, one of the first agreements signed between the governments of the two countries after the establishment of diplomatic relations.It has been renewed almost every 5 years since.
