Armed Clashes in Libyan City of Zawiya Lead to Fires at Oil Refinery

On Sunday, armed clashes erupted in the city of Zawiya in western Libya, trapping residents in their homes and igniting fires at the country’s second-largest oil refinery, according to official reports.

Local media reported that the fighting in Zawiya, located about 47 kilometers west of the capital Tripoli, was between armed groups loyal to the Al-Sharafaa tribe and warlord Mohamed Kushaf, who was sanctioned by the UN Security Council in 2018 for alleged involvement in human trafficking.
