G8 summit opens in Cairo

The first summit of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (D-8) in seven years began on Thursday in the Egyptian capital, Cairo.

The summit is being held under the theme “Investing in Youth, Supporting Small and Medium Enterprises: Shaping the Economy of Tomorrow,” according to Anadolu Agency.

The G8 includes the following Muslim developing countries: Egypt, Turkey, Nigeria, Pakistan, Iran, Indonesia, Malaysia and Bangladesh.

The summit will discuss ways to cope with global economic and political changes.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his Iranian counterpart Masoud Bazeshkian, who is visiting Egypt in the first visit by an Iranian president to Cairo in 11 years.
