A magnitude 5 earthquake has struck the city of Valdivia in northwestern Colombia.

The epicentre was located 15 kilometres northeast of the Valdivia region at a depth of 70 kilometres, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS).

There have been no reports of human or material losses as a result of the quake.
