69 Migrants Die in Boat Capsizing Off the Coast of Morocco

Authorities in Mali have announced that at least 69 migrants, including 25 Malian citizens, have died after a boat capsized while traveling from West Africa to Spain off the coast of Morocco.

The boat was carrying approximately 80 passengers, and 11 people survived the incident, 9 of whom are from Mali.

Since the beginning of 2024, more than 10,400 migrants have died while attempting to reach Spain, according to a report by the organization “Caminando Fronteras.”

The International Organization for Migration estimates that over 16,400 migrants have died since 2014 in their attempts to reach Europe.
