China launched its first new-generation amphibious assault ship, the Type 076 ‘Sichuan’, in the eastern municipality of Shanghai on Friday.
Xinhua reported that the ship, named after southwest China’s Sichuan Province, was independently lowered into the water during the launch and naming ceremony, while the number 51 was launched on its hull.
The ship incorporates innovative technologies that enable it to carry fixed-wing aircraft, helicopters and amphibious equipment.
Following the launch, the ship will undergo a series of planned tests, including equipment operation, mooring tests and sea trials.
