South Korea’s parliament voted on Friday to impeach interim President Han Duck-soo, who is accused of obstructing an investigation into the ousted president’s attempt to impose martial law, plunging the country into a serious political crisis.
Lawmakers voted on 14 December to impeach conservative President Yeon Sok-yol, who imposed martial law and sent the army into parliament earlier this month, before reversing his decision a few hours later.
The anti-corruption watchdog has twice summoned the ousted president for questioning over the events of 3 and 4 December, but Yeon refused both times, and on Thursday investigators sent him a third summons for a meeting on Sunday morning.
