The Mexican government announced on Friday the deployment of an ‘alert app’ for its nationals in the United States who are threatened with mass deportation, as confirmed by President-elect Donald Trump .
Foreign Minister Juan Ramon de la Fuente said: ‘If you are about to be detained, activate the alarm button, which will send a signal to the nearest consulate,’ according to AFP.
Mexico has a network of about 50 consulates in the United States, serving 12 million Mexican immigrants north of the Rio Grande, not counting dual nationals and descendants of Mexicans.
Trump described the entry of migrants into the United States without visas across his country’s border with Mexico as an “invasion”. He promised to carry out “the largest deportation (of foreigners) in the history of the United States” by declaring a state of emergency and deploying the military.
