China Strengthens Cultural Partnership with Iraq Through the Success of the Short Video Competition (Video)
The second edition of the China-Iraq Short Video Competition concluded under the theme “Hand in Hand Toward a Shared Future” .The event was organized by the China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) Middle East, in collaboration with China-Arab TV and the Chinese Enterprises Chamber of Commerce in Iraq, with direct support from the Chinese and Iraqi embassies.
Exceptional Support from Organizers
The Chinese side played a pivotal role in the competition’s success. CNPC Middle East demonstrated its commitment to fostering cultural exchange and economic cooperation. In his speech, the company’s general manager, Chen Xinyong, emphasized that CNPC goes beyond energy projects to pursue cultural and humanitarian goals.
He highlighted the company’s vision of mutual benefit, focusing on supporting local economies and strengthening human connections.
Virtual Celebration and Broad Participation
The award ceremony was held on December 26, 2024, in a virtual format. The event witnessed the participation of the Chinese and Iraqi embassies, representatives from major companies such as Huawei and China State Construction, and media outlets from both countries. Academic institutions, including Salahaddin University and the University of Baghdad, were also represented.
Remarkable Works and Inspiring Stories
The films “Across Borders” and “China Star Card” shared first place, highlighting unique stories that reflected the understanding between the two cultures. The grand prize went to “Telling the World About Modern China”, which showcased Iraqi translator Abbas Kazemi’s efforts to bring Chinese culture closer to the Arab world.
Cultural and Academic Echoes
Dr. Salman Omar, Dean of the College of Languages at Salahaddin University, praised the competition for inspiring young people to understand diverse cultures. Similarly, Sadiq Jassim, Head of the Baghdad Cultural Council, commended the Chinese-Iraqi collaboration, emphasizing that such initiatives strengthen cultural and human bonds between the two nations.

After two consecutive years of success, the organizers, led by the Chinese side, pledged to continue hosting events that enhance cultural and creative exchanges. Their efforts aim to build a sustainable bridge of cooperation between Chinese and Arab civilizations.
