The foreign minister of the new Syrian government, Asaad al-Shibani, announced on Monday that he will visit Saudi Arabia in the first week of 2025.
In a post on the ‘X’ platform, al-Shibani said he had accepted an official invitation from his Saudi counterpart, Faisal bin Farhan, to visit the kingdom.
I accept this invitation with love and pleasure and I am honoured to represent my country with the first official visit and we look forward to building strategic relations with our brothers in the Kingdom in all fields,’ he added.
Later, during a press conference he held in the Syrian capital Damascus with his Kuwaiti counterpart Abdullah al-Yahya, al-Shaibani said the visit ‘will take place at the beginning of the first week early next year’.
The upcoming visit is Sheibani’s first since the formation of his country’s transitional government following the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime.
