270 Killed in Landslide That Destroyed Remote Village in Darfur

Rescue teams in Sudan’s Darfur region have recovered 270 bodies after a devastating landslide triggered by heavy rains destroyed the remote village of Tarsin in the Jebel Marra area, officials announced Wednesday.

According to the civilian authority in territories controlled by the Sudan Liberation Movement/Army, the death toll is expected to rise as rescue operations continue under difficult conditions.

The United Nations, citing field sources, reported that between 300 and 1,000 people may have been killed, though the full scale of the disaster remains unclear due to limited access to the affected area.
