At least 42 migrants, including 29 Sudanese nationals, have died after their boat sank off the coast of Libya more than a week after departing from the town of Zuwara, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) said on Wednesday.
According to the IOM, the vessel was carrying 49 people, including two women, when it capsized due to rough seas and engine failure about six hours after departure.
Only seven men survived — four from Sudan, two from Nigeria, and one from Cameroon — after drifting at sea for six days before being rescued by Libyan authorities.
Among the dead were eight Somalis, three Cameroonians, and two Nigerians, in addition to the 29 Sudanese victims.
