At least 47 people were killed as landslides and flash floods triggered by heavy rainfall swept through several regions of Nepal.

A police spokesperson said 35 people died in Ilam district near the Indian border.

Ongoing rains have hampered rescue efforts, while emergency teams work to clear roads and evacuate residents in mountainous areas.
