49 Dead in Passenger Plane Crash in Russia’s Far East on Thursday

Forty-nine people were killed on Thursday when an Antonov An-24 passenger aircraft, operated by Angara Airlines, crashed near Tynda in the Amur region of Russia’s Far East, according to Russian authorities.

The Russian Investigative Committee confirmed that all on board — 43 passengers, including five children, and six crew members — perished in the crash. The aircraft disappeared from radar just minutes before its scheduled landing and failed to issue any distress signal.

According to the state news agency TASS, the plane lost contact with air traffic control a few kilometers from Tynda Airport, prompting a swift search and rescue operation that led to the discovery of the wreckage in a remote mountainous area.

Amur regional governor Vasily Orlov expressed his condolences to the victims’ families and declared a period of regional mourning. Authorities are working closely with federal aviation agencies to investigate the cause of the crash.
