A 6.1-magnitude earthquake struck the town of Sındırgı in Balıkesir Province, western Turkey, on Sunday evening, killing one person and injuring at least 29 others.
The quake caused the collapse of more than ten buildings, including two mosque minarets. Residents in several provinces, including Istanbul, felt the tremors, which extended up to 200 kilometers in length.
Authorities warned residents to avoid damaged buildings. Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya confirmed that the collapsed buildings were largely abandoned and that no serious injuries had been reported among the wounded.
More than 250 aftershocks have occurred across several provinces.
