A 6.4-magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Hualien County in eastern Taiwan on Wednesday, according to the Central Weather Administration. No immediate reports of casualties or damage were announced by authorities.
The quake’s epicenter was located approximately 69.9 kilometers south of central Hualien, with a depth of 30.9 kilometers below the surface, the agency said in an official statement.
Residents in both Hualien and Taitung counties reported feeling the tremor, which triggered brief concern across the region.
Taiwan lies along the Pacific “Ring of Fire,” a seismically active zone known for frequent earthquakes. Emergency services are monitoring the situation, and assessments are ongoing to determine any potential impacts.
