Nine people, including an eight-year-old child, were killed and 14 others injured in Cambodian airstrikes on northeastern Thailand, the Thai military announced Thursday, amid the worst border clashes between the two countries in nearly 15 years.
According to military officials, six victims died near a gas station in Sisaket Province, two in Surin Province, and one in Ubon Ratchathani Province—all bordering Cambodia.
The renewed violence included exchanges of gunfire between Thai and Cambodian forces in a disputed border region, with both governments confirming the hostilities while trading blame for the escalation.
The long-contested area has witnessed periodic flare-ups over the years, but Thursday’s violence marks a significant escalation, raising alarms across Southeast Asia.
