The US Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) announced on Thursday that it has imposed sanctions on the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), Karim Khan.
The office made the announcement in an update to sanctions imposed on the court by President Donald Trump last week.
Trump had approved economic and travel sanctions targeting individuals who assist ICC investigations involving US citizens or allies such as Israel.
In a joint statement on Friday, 79 countries reaffirmed their continued and unwavering support for the independence, impartiality and integrity of the ICC and warned that any punitive measures against the court would increase the risk of impunity and undermine the rule of international law.
