Zelensky: Russian drone hit Chernobyl nuclear site in Ukraine

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said today (Friday) that a Russian drone had hit a facility built to contain radiation at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, adding that ‘radiation levels have not increased’.

Zelensky said in a post on social media: ‘Last night a Russian attack drone carrying a high-explosive warhead hit the shelter that protects the world from radiation from the destroyed fourth reactor at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) also reported an ‘explosion’ at the site, noting that ‘radiation levels inside and outside are normal and stable’.
