The Personal Information Protection Commission said the service was suspended at 6pm on Saturday and will resume after “improvements and remedies” in line with South Korea’s personal information protection laws, Yonhap news agency reported.
The move comes after several government ministries and agencies blocked internal access to DeepSec over concerns about the Chinese startup’s data management practices.
The Commission sent a formal request to DeepSec in January, asking it to clarify its data collection and management practices.
Since then, the Chinese company has appointed a representative in South Korea, acknowledged shortcomings in complying with local privacy laws, and agreed to actively cooperate with the Commission.
